Concatenate multiple reports into one pdf

Is there any way to do the above? I need to supply a number of "management accounts" reports individually during the month, and then the accountant needs to run them all into a single pdf at the end of the month for the board report.

Thanks in advance

Combining reports into one report directly is not a current feature. One option you could try would be to create a master report that uses the Sub Report feature of RS. A simplistic view would be to create the master report that looks like Subreport\Pagebreak\Subreport\Pagebreak\etc...

|||Thanks - I had a feeling that was the case. I have lots of info in the header, so I will have to strip that out.

Computer Hang Up when using MDX Query Builder?

hello,
I have some reports using OLAP cube as data sources. When I use mdx
query builder to create any mdx statement as dataset, my computer will hang
up and pop up a window says:
Preparing Query: The query preparation is in process, to cancel, press
CTRL+C for at least half a second.
Even if I press CTRL+C for a long time, my computer still has no
response and hang up forever. I have tried these mdx statement in my SQL
server and they work fine. So this should not be an Analysis Serverices
problem. Would you please tell me how to solve this problem?I've found that if I create a huge data set with the mdx query builder, I
have to leave my computer to it and go get a cup of coffee while it chews
through the data.
Or you could add a few filters to it before starting the query execution, to
make sure the data set it returns is too big. Adding a date filter and make
it default to the last month or date will usually decrease the amount of
data returned.
My pc is running with 2 GB RAM and not a lot of applications in the back
ground. It still uses some time to chew through a data set that finishes
quite quickly in the SQL Server management studio, so I agree with you, it's
a RS issue more than an AS issue. You just have to be carefull about your
statement while using the builer, I guess.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. I have tried a very simple mdx with a
middle size data set. e.g.
SELECT NON EMPTY { } ON COLUMNS,
{ ([Financial Period].[Fiscal].[Fiscal Year].ALLMEMBERS ) } ON ROWS FROM
[myCube]
My computer has a 1GB RAM, not so bad...This query will take about 1
second in my SQL server, however in ES it just hang up for hours and never
get back again, much more than a cup of coffee time.
I will try that on another computer to have a test and I do not think
that will happen too.
Do you think I should remove SQL server or Visual Studio and install
again?Thanks.

I would do this and see if it's a lot faster:
Select [Financial Period].[Fiscal].[Fiscal Year].MEMBERS on COLUMNS
FROM MyCube
and see if that's a lot faster.

Complete Newbie Question

I have just installed Reporting Services and created a few reports that
I want to run in a web page - that seems easy enough to do but my boss
has asked me to provide a batch reporting solution.
He wants users to be able to request a report and the request be
written away to a sql db. I have a windows service that picks up all
new requests and fires up some .exe's depending on what sort of request
it is e.g password reset , password reminder etc..
When the reports are run I need them to be saved as PDF's into a
specific folder that can be accessed later from a web page.
Now all this is written and working using ActiveReports for .NET but we
hate that package and want to use sql reporting services. Can it be
done in sql reporting services and if so how do I do it - I mean I need
some real code examples
any help would be brilliant
cheers
JimI have been using log4net to log to SQL DB. You can log the web request when
reports are rendered. It is upto you to write the logic to who views the
page( for eg using session object who the user was like,
Session["UserName"]). log4net allows you to log when certain events are
triggered blah blah... Check out:
http://logging.apache.org/log4net/release/config-examples.html
Look for ADONETAppender which is what you want.

Complete Execution History of a report

Hi,

I have some reports(both parameterized and non-parameterized) for which I need to have an execution history on the report server. These are not scheduled and so the history should only be for the instances when users view the report.

I checked the 'Store all report execution snapshots in history' but it does not store the snapshot in history everytime the report is viewed. What do I do to achieve this?

Thanks

One way is to query the ExecutionLog table in the Reporting Services Database. You will need to join to the Catalog table to retrieve the report names. The only issue here is that the ExectutionLog table is cleaned out periodically (monthly?) so you will only get the last month's worth of executions.

I have copies of the ExecutionLog and Catalog table created in another database and run a job to update them every few minutes. I run a Reporting Statisitcs report off these tables.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your the link. However, I do not need the detailed execution statistics provided by the solution. I simply want the report snapshot to be stored in history whenever a report is viewed/run. This behaviour is by default in Crystal Enterprise 10 and I thought it would be reasonably simple in Reporting Services as well. Is the answer no ?

Thanks again,

Hemil.

|||SSRS supports automatically creating history snapshots for reports which are set to execute from a snapshot. Each time the snapshot is updated, it will be added to report history. That said, we do not support automatically creating history for every single live execution. I am not certain how useful that would be...|||

Considering this sceranio...there are three users of the same 'roles' who can access the same report. At any time whoever generates the report the first time. It will be kept in the history folder. When the rest of the users checks on the history they know who's has generated the report and that they themselve need not generate the reports ( since someone has done). I guess in this situation...it would be useful to describe why he needs that facility?

Complete beginner needs help with record selection

As a complete beginner to Crystal Reports I hope I am not asking stupid questions of what looks like a very technical and knowledgeable forum...if I am please feel free to direct me elsewhere!

I am trying to select records using several Tables but filtered from a 'Transactions Table' but only want the last dated record (ie the last dated record is equal to [input date range]. In Access I would use a query asking for 'LastOf...[field name] - but I don't know how to select the LastOf in Crystal Reports. I have stumbled around the Help for ages...can anybody please advise me on what I am sure is a simple question!
Many ThanksOne way would be to group by the table.column you're interested in and add the 'lastof' clause into the group selection formula:

{table.column} = Maximum ({table.column})|||If you use Access query for that, then design report based on that query and supply that value as parameter

Comparison with Crystal Reports

I showed my boss the functionality of ad hoc reporting in SRSS and he likes
it. He asked me if we could completely move away from Crystal Reports (CR) to
SRSS.
Does anyone have any issues with SRSS that didnt exist in CR.
One question i have is programmability capabilities. Some time back i had to
make a very complex report in CR. I create a table in the dataset. Designed
the report to pull data from that table and the table was being populated
through some VB.NET code. So the users will open a GUI and hit RUN, which is
when i will populate the table and show the report. You can assume that
populating the table required complex programming and couldnt have been done
through user defined functions in a report.
I dont suppose stuff like this can be done in SRSS?RS is designed a lot more around creating the query or the stored procedure
as the source for the report. You can have multiple datasets in a report and
you can easily create 1-many reports using subreports. If you absolutely
must create the dataset via code you can do this either using the VS 2005
report control in local mode (no server, you had the control the report and
the dataset) or you can create a data process extension. Neither is
non-trivial. I have done very complex reports and have never flelt the need
for creating the dataset in code. All my reports either have the query or a
stored procedure with it.
The reports have parameters that the user selects (can be either from a list
(which can be filled by a query) or date control etc). The parameters can be
cascading. i.e the second parameter list depends on what is picked with the
first parameter. Also you can have multi-select parameters as well.
The only issue I have seen are people that have a set of business objects
coded or they want to code that way. You can do this but it is harder (data
processing extension).

Depending on the version of Crystal you have, there are various differences, though it is a good path to move to in my opinion.

Here is one summary I have found outlining differences:

http://www.crystalreportsbook.com/SSRSandCR_ExecSummary.asp

There's lots of information out there on this.

It is also possible to use a dataset as the source of report data in a custom application with Reporting Services.

Comparioson Reports

Hi There
My client has asked that there existing SQL reports be used for Comparison Reports.
So for example at the moment - they Select a Company site and a department to create a report.
Now they want to have have a another site on the report - like a multipage report in MS Access reports.
Any ideas folks?Reporting services (currently) does not support a multi-select parameter.. I
suspect that will be coming soon..
In the mean time, you may make a parameter which is a text field, and
require users to type in a (comma) delimited list which you use in a select
statement..
If there is a MAX of 2 sites on a report, you might create 2 parameters and
allow a single select on each... This feels a little kludgy, but maybe your
users would accept it..
