While I realize that this may indeed be an absolutely idiotic
question, I am forcing myself to post it in the off-chance that I will
end up further along then when I started off. We are facing a forced
migration to IE 7 and Office 2007 on all of our client machines. Later
on (next year) we are facing a migration to Vista.
One of my concerns is that we have a legacy application originally
written many years ago that we are still having problems updating to
32-BIT ODBC connections, my question is this: With the roll-out of
Office 2007 or Vista is there even a remote likelihood of issues
occuring due to new ODBC or Data Access issues? Should we look at
recompiling with newer data access components and to the update
drivers, and if we do will it break compatibility with exempt systems?
I know the questions are vague and that my understanding of MDAC/ODBC
may not be as formidable as those on this site, I am less a DBA and
more of a Sec/NetAdm/SysAdm/Programmer kind of guy who has been thrust
into maintaining a Dinosaur of a project, any help would be
appreciated.Hi
Although I don't think that you would have issues with ODBC, it would be
prudent to have a test system with the configuration you desire and test this
thoroughly before rolling it out to everyone. The most likely issues IMO are
more likely to be related to permissions/security than backward compatibility.
